Ita Hearts is a Matrix homeserver created as a place for people in fandom communities to chat without worrying about platform censorship. I created Ita Hearts because I was tired of platforms like Discord becoming increasingly hostile to communities discussing adult, leftist, and queer topics. As someone that’s been involved in online fandom for well over a decade now, I think we deserve a friendly space on the internet; and sometimes if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!
Matrix is a software that allows people to communicate through a decentralized, federated protocol that give you the freedom to choose where your data is being hosted. Think email: if you have a Gmail account, you can still email a person with an Outlook account, even though your emails are being hosted by different providers. I wasn’t very satisfied with the hosting providers listed on their website, so I decided to go and make my own!
